“ We stopped here for lunch on our way through the area. The waitress was very attentive. We got chili and a club sandwich which were both good. Red velvet cake to eat later which was delicious. ”

“ Purple Onion Cafe is a Holden beach /Shallotte Gem! We have been many times now always please with our food. Highly recommend the Grilled chicken with bacon jam sandwiches in grilled sourdough. Both my wife and say it is the best chicken sandwich. You can get on many other breads but the grilling sourdough makes it. Breakfast has been very good as well as burgers. They make chips to go with hand helds and if you are a fresh chip fan you will be happy as there are no added chemicals like in bagged chips. The Holden beach area does not have many good restaurants and we are happy to have found Purple onion. The restaurant is always clean. This is big for us if we enter a restaurant and health score is low we just turn around and leave. No problem here as score has always been high 90’s ( I hope they push to get 100) Congratulations to the owners and team good food good service and consistency. ”
“ A friend recommended breakfast. Only complaint was the acoustics. No sound buffer, and you could hear every conversation all at once. Excellent eggs benny, fresh and large cuts of home fries. Pancake bigger than my head! Nice texture and delicious. I'm a pancake snob! Had the fried green tomato blt with pimento cheese. Apparently, it had been made before my hibs breakfast was ready. The tomato was over breaded. Otherwise, I'd give it another chance, for sure! ”

The food was delicious and there were more than plenty choices. I was so full, I didn’t have room for dessert and they looked so good. It may be a good drive from Wilmington, NC, but we’ll be back. I have to sample more menu options and of course, dessert. ”
